Singer Anita White, who has been using Lady A as a stage moniker for decades, has responded to the lawsuit filed this week by Lady A, the country band formerly known as Lady Antebellum.

The country trio formerly known as Lady Antebellum sought to change its name and remove itself from “Antebellum’s” connection to the Civil War. Almost a month ago, they chose Lady A.  https://www.latimes.com/entertainment-arts/music/story/2020-06-11/lady-antebellum-changes-its-name-we-are-regretful-and-embarrassed

The band’s rebranding to Lady A overshadowed the original Lady A — Anita White, a veteran blues singer who’s been performing under that name for decades.  https://www.latimes.com/entertainment-arts/music/story/2020-06-12/lady-antebellum-lady-a-blues-singer-response

After the singer Lady A called out the band Lady A, the musicians held a virtual meeting to discuss the overlap.  https://www.latimes.com/entertainment-arts/music/story/2020-06-16/lady-a-lady-antebellum-blues-singer-anita-white-instagram

The negotiations broke down, and the country group sued the solo artist.

The members of the band Lady A are not seeking any monetary damages through the action, according to a copy of the complaint, but that they “continue to coexist.”  https://www.latimes.com/entertainment-arts/music/story/2020-07-08/lady-a-trademark-lawsuit-anita-white

Anita White is not having it.

She called the group out for their performative activism, saying, “They want to appropriate something I used for decades. Just because I don’t have 40 million fans or $40 million, that should not matter.”  https://www.latimes.com/entertainment-arts/music/story/2020-07-10/lady-a-name-lawsuit-anita-white-response
