We have some big news to share with you today: Threader is now a part of Twitter!

TL;DR: As part of the acquisition, Threader will shut down in 30 days. But we’re bringing the best of Threader directly to Twitter. Check out Twitter Blue - beautiful thread reading is just one of the many premium features we think you’ll enjoy.

The journey
Threader was born 4 years ago from an assessment. At the time, threads were not widely used. We noticed the kind of amazing content shared by people on Twitter who worked around the 280 character limit to express longer thoughts, but they were hard to find and even more difficult to read. We felt a desire to highlight these great stories and knowledge shared on the platform. Our first prototype was an iOS app recommending interesting threads to read in an article format. We created a text-focused, distraction-and-ad-free experience.

We soon realized the big potential of Threader. Not only did we make threads easier to read, but we made them easier to share. We were astounded by the variety of people using it - from tech leaders and journalists to researchers, writers and more. Our app was a part of their routine, and Threader became the biggest public database of Tweets published in this format.

Today, we are bringing this experience to Twitter. We are both proud of what we’ve achieved together, especially as an independent team of two. We’re excited to bring the Threader experience to millions of people on Twitter.

What’s next
As part of this acquisition, we’ll be shutting Threader down on December 15, 2021. But we’re not leaving you empty handed. We’ve recently built a similar reading experience at Twitter, which is now available as part of Twitter Blue. Through Twitter Blue, you’ll get access to features like Reader, which turns long threads into an easier-to-read experience, and Bookmarks Folder, a feature requested by many of you, that lets you save and organize your favorite threads. Twitter Blue is also available on Android. We’re so stoked to turn Threader into a native experience on Twitter!

Thank you
We’d both like to thank those who accompanied us on this journey:

  • The people who shared and recommended our platform over the years
  • The friends who supported us along the way
  • And to all the kind and interesting people we got to meet along the way, and friendships born from this journey - we are grateful to you.
