I find it infuriating to be told sex categories are irrelevant to feminism when on average two women are killed by men every single week in Britain.
It would be *brilliant* to live in a world where sex truly was irrelevant, but we’re not there yet. Sex is significant, and women everywhere pay a terrible price for it.
There is no way to effectively challenge or resist this endemic of male violence against women and girls while ignoring sexual politics.
Certain academics tweeting gleefully about the irrelevance of biological sex to feminism seem to have missed the core purpose of the movement: liberating women & girls from all of the harms men visit upon us as a consequence of our sex.
Every feminist hopes for a world where sex stops holding political significance. It’s why we work to dismantle patriarchy, the root cause of sexism.
