The most striking feature of the Trump Era, which I've never been able to adequately capture in words, is how it has made everything & everyone a caricature. Everything is an archetype, an exaggeration, the most extreme version of itself, too ludicrous to pass as fiction.
I mean... Bannon? Steven Miller? Tearing kids from their parents' arms & caging them? Sleeping with a porn star & paying her off? Tweeting wild insults at the leader of North Korea? Jamming a thumb-faced sexual bully onto the Supreme Court via a show trial humiliating his victim?
Even on the other side. I mean, Stacey Abrams & AOC don't even seem human, they seem like leftist hashish dreams come to life. And now this guy, Schultz, who is every self-regarding, billionaire-bubble-dwelling, conventional-wisdom-soaked center-left douchecanoe rolled into one.
Everything is so f'ing ON THE NOSE. 👃
See what I mean?
The US president spends more than half his waking hours live-tweeting Fox News, from which he gets the majority of his information & strategy. No twitter snark can possibly do this fact justice.
See what I mean?
I think this piece belongs in this thread. Here's Fred Hiatt writing a column that would be laughed out of the room if it were submitted as a Fred Hiatt parody. https://www.washingtonpost.com/opinions/its-open-season-on-the-wealthy-but-billionaires-can-be-good-for-democracy/2019/02/03/fa9bb60e-2643-11e9-ad53-824486280311_story.html …
They say aspiring demagogues play to audiences fears. So naturally Trump does that in the most thuddingly literal, overt way possible. We live in a farce.
And the farce thread continues, as we discover that Trump literally asked someone to nominate him for a Nobel Peace Prize in his first year in office, even has he was putting asylum-seeking children in gulags. https://www.reuters.com/article/us-northkorea-usa-trump-japan/japans-pm-nominated-trump-for-nobel-peace-prize-on-u-s-request-asahi-idUSKCN1Q6041 …
Always the maximal stupid.
This thread will never end.
Oh this definitely belongs in my Trump surrealism thread.
"Voted against an anti-hate resolution" warrants inclusion in this thread, I believe.
Hello surrealism thread, I have a gift for you. https://www.mediaite.com/tv/katrina-pierson-responds-to-wh-diversity-question-by-asking-how-many-black-staffers-abraham-lincoln-had/ …
