Police weirdness #4307
I get stopped whilst walking home from the store:
๐Ÿ‘ฎโ€โ™€๏ธ: Speak English?
Me: Yes
๐Ÿ‘ฎโ€โ™€๏ธ: Why are you here?
Me: I live here
๐Ÿ‘ฎโ€โ™€๏ธ: Did you come on boat?
Me: Uhm, no
๐Ÿ‘ฎโ€โ™€๏ธ: Are you sure?
Me: Yes, I came via plane.
๐Ÿ‘ฎโ€โ™€๏ธ: Answer our questions please! Do you work?

Me: I am answering. Yes I work.
๐Ÿ‘ฎโ€โ™€๏ธ: Where are your papers?
(I hand them my passport, which is a legal requirement in Spain.)
๐Ÿ‘ฎโ€โ™€๏ธ: And your work papers? (Sounding agitated)
Me: I donโ€™t carry that around with me, besides I have my own business.

๐Ÿ‘ฎโ€โ™€๏ธ: Come to the station with us. (Quite angry now, still holding my passport)
Me: No, what have I done? (Take passport back from them)
๐Ÿ‘ฎโ€โ™€๏ธ: Come with us!
Me: No, for what reason, you legally need to tell me why.
๐Ÿ‘ฎโ€โ™€๏ธ: Weโ€™ll let you off with a warning
(They now walk away)
Me: ๐Ÿคท๐Ÿพโ€โ™‚๏ธ

This doesnโ€™t happen all the time, but when it does, Iโ€™m reminded that I am โ€œotherโ€, regardless of how I conduct myself.
