Days before fatally shooting his ex-wife, a Pennsylvania man passed a background check at a gun shop and walked out with an AR-15. He took the gun to a child-custody exchange, and shot his ex-wife in the head and stomach at point-blank range. #papolitics

The gunman was under a protection-from-abuse order that lapsed in September. While the order was active, he couldn’t legally own guns. But he passed a background check because he was found guilty of summary harassment, NOT misdemeanor domestic violence.

In light of this domestic gun violence tragedy, county officials where the shooting took place are calling on Pennsylvania lawmakers to pass a Red Flag law. Fourteen states and DC have passed these laws.

A GoFundMe campaign has been launched to support the woman’s son. As of noon on April 5, the $25,000 goal has been eclipsed with more than 460 people donating $38,227.
