Police are searching for an armed Florida woman, 18, who is believed to be in the Denver area after threatening students at Columbine High School. Nearly 20 schools were on lockdown; Saturday will mark 20 years since the Columbine mass shooting. #coleg  https://www.local10.com/news/florida/miami-dade/south-florida-woman-accused-of-threatening-columbine-students

Miami officers say the 18-year-old woman made "concerning comments" in the past and expressed an obsession with the Columbine shooting. She was able to fly to Colorado and buy a shotgun and ammunition when she landed. The age to legally buy a long gun in Colorado is 18. #coleg

Authorities provided this description: “She is a white female, 18 years old, approximately 5’5″ in height, with brown hair. She was last seen in a black t-shirt, camouflage pants, and black boots in the foothills of Jefferson County.” #coleg

Police said that if they catch her, they'll keep her in custody as long as possible - however, an arrest is not imminent or assured. She has no criminal history and hasn't been adjudicated mentally ill, so she can legally own guns. #coleg

Last week, Colorado Gov. Jared Polis signed a bill into law - opposed by the @NRA - that will give judges the power to temporarily remove guns from people who are a danger to themselves or others (ERPO, aka Red Flag law). The law won't go into effect until Jan 1, 2020. #coleg

In Colorado, no permit or training is required to buy a long gun, and you only have to:

be 18 or older;

provide an ID from any state;

and have a background check conducted by a licensed firearms dealer (looking for criminal history or an adjudicated mental illness).

My kids won’t be attending their high school or college classes in the area tomorrow if the armed 18-year-old isn’t apprehended - regardless of what schools officials decide during their 3:30 am conference call. #coleg
