My take on yesterday’s Bad Tweet: In America the urge to blame the victim and identity with the abuser is so ingrained, it’s instinct.
This seems a desire to distinguish, not between types of slaves, but between types of slave owners.
It’s a position designed to allow one to believe, with untroubled conscience, that one enjoys only the fruit of *good* slavery.
The solecism “salves” seems downright Freudian.
There should be a word for Winstons who have won the victory over themselves, loving Big Brother w/o extortion or other illegitimate pressures. E.g. Under the spreading chestnut tree/I sold you and you sold me. Different word could highlight its lower moral culpability.
