Legal Twitter, a question: do impeachment proceedings give Dems in the House any legal powers they don't have through normal committee investigations? Does it do anything material to help them gather facts, etc.? Is there any tangible advantage to doing it?

Here's a pieces from @ThePlumLineGS arguing that impeachment DOES strengthen Dems' hands:  https://www.washingtonpost.com/opinions/2019/04/24/how-trump-is-making-his-own-impeachment-more-likely/

And here's a thread from scholar Joshua Matz arguing, similarly, that impeachment DOES lift investigations to a different level & elicit different behavior from various actors in the legal system.
