Polls will close in just a few hours in today’s election to fill a seat on the LAUSD board.
The runoff race pits Jackie Goldberg against Heather Repenning to represent the District 5 area.  https://lat.ms/2HicUGt

The board seat has been vacant since July 2018 when member Ref Rodriguez pleaded guilty to campaign finance crimes and resigned.  https://lat.ms/2Q4dMS3

Goldberg and Repenning are the top two finishers from the March primary, out of 10 candidates.  https://lat.ms/2W5Vi91

District 5 voters include residents of upscale areas in Silver Lake, Highland Park and Eagle Rock, as well as the lower-income cities southeast of downtown, like Bell, Huntington Park, South Gate and Cudahy.

Some question whether Goldberg or Repenning can adequately represent Board District 5, which was redrawn about 15 years ago for the purpose of ensuring the Latino vote would not be diluted.
