“Speaker Nancy Pelosi told senior Democrats that she’d like to see President Donald Trump ‘in prison’ as she clashed with House Judiciary Chairman Jerry Nadler in a meeting on Tuesday night over whether to launch impeachment proceedings.” 

“Nadler pressed Pelosi to allow his committee to launch an impeachment inquiry against Trump — the second such request he’s made in recent weeks only to be rebuffed by the California Democrat and other senior leaders.” 

59 House Democrats support opening at least an impeachment inquiry into President Trump according to the latest Washington Post whip count. 

WaPo confirms Politico report:

"House Speaker Nancy Pelosi told several high-ranking colleagues Tuesday night that she wants to see President Trump 'in prison' but does not want to impeach him, according to two officials familiar with the conversation.” 

PELOSI asked by @maureendowd whether she said she doesn’t want TRUMP impeached, she wants him in prison:

“I didn’t exactly say that.” 

Latest Washington Post whip count:

- 83 House Democrats want to open an impeachment inquiry into Trump
- 15 of 24 House Democrats on the Judiciary Committee want to open an inquiry 

New Washington Post-ABC News poll:

59 percent of Americans say the House should not begin impeachment proceedings, a 3-point increase from April.

46 percent strongly oppose impeachment proceedings.

61 percent of Democrats support impeaching Trump.
