Assuming it's a political gambit by Biden to say Republicans after Trump will be better, it's a self-absorbed one that damages Democratic candidates and their policies. It suggests an underlying good faith behind GOP claims that Democrats are Communist baby murderers. Also... /1

I generally think it is more useful to take candidates at their word when they describe their own beliefs, rather than presuming they secretly hold your own views. Obama's center-leaning tendency and Trump's crude racism in forming policy were both obvious in their campaigns. /2

Back in May, Biden suggested the post-Trump GOP will have “an epiphany” and work with Democrats. Now he says "with Trump gone you’re going to begin to see things change." I don't see why Dems should presume he's faking that--or why they should reward him if he is faking it. /end

Once again, there is no good reason to think Biden has some secret electoral strategy in mind here. He's expressing his own personal beliefs. Take him at his word: he has the delusion that Republicans will work with a Democratic President.
