When I visited Tornillo, which is in a mostly flat desert, I was struck by how good the govt is at keeping the camp hidden. It was an evil sort of genius. You generally couldn't see the camp. It was symbolic of a broader effort to keep them out of sight. To make you forget them.
I don't want to believe the indifference Americans are showing (lots of handwringing, limited action) is because people don't care about other people's kids. That may be true. But maybe that's how good a job the govt has done in making them mostly invisible to us. Time to act!
