14 years ago, I was honored to be recognized as “Hacker of the year” by O’Reilly and Google at OSCON. But ever since its meant getting asked over and over and over again if I’m really good at breaking into computers! 🤦♂️
Hacker as a synonym for programmer while also being “person who breaks into systems” is the stupidest naming dispute in computing. The public decided long ago that hacker means the former. Wish the programming world would just accept the vote and move on!
*latter. Hacker = systems intruder.
