We accept this in all other aspects of medicine, e.g. if HgB A1C is 10 and able to reduce to 8 we don't give up. I hope we say, "that's awesome!"
There is CLEAR bias here.
We accept "less likely to die" as a valid metric everywhere else!!!
And someone who is now only using heroin on the weekend as opposed to 4 times a day may now be able to get a job. And reducing poverty — a health goal on its own — as well as workplace friendships may also have other beneficial impacts on drug use.
