Here's a list of reimbursements to the Treasury during the Bush administration, courtesy of @SunFoundation.

So, you see, reimbursement for political events was a thing in past admins. And, of course, these events were at the White House. A massive public event funded by an Interior Dept appropriation on the National Mall is nothing like an event at the White House—where POTUS lives.

The talking point that it's standard for a political party to hand out tickets to an event on government property seems to be overlooking something: A political party reimbursing the government for such an event is a thing, even in this administration.

The headline of this article mentions the DNC during the Obama administration, but it also provides a list of reimbursements by the RNC during the Bush administration.  https://sunlightfoundation.com/2015/03/04/dnc-payments-white-house/
