My new post: The coal resource curse has come to Wyoming. Two big mines abruptly shut down last week, communities are devastated, and vulture capitalists are moving in to pick at the remains. Workers, as ever, are getting screwed. https://www.vox.com/energy-and-environment/2019/7/9/20684815/coal-wyoming-bankruptcy-blackjewel-appalachia?utm_campaign=drvox&utm_content=chorus&utm_medium=social&utm_source=twitter …
I didn't get too much into this in the post, but it's worth emphasizing: as fossil fuels decline, workers are getting fvcked. Republicans invoke workers to fight off taxes or regulations, but they are doing NOTHING to protect workers in transition (and have destroyed unions).
Democrats are the only ones with serious policy proposals to protect fossil fuel workers. They're the only ones with *any* policies to protect the working class. And yet the best our DC political geniuses can think of to appeal to the WWC is "be a little more racist."
Couldn't figure out how to squeeze this into today's piece, but it is, as they say, on-theme: https://apnews.com/e0de55a8f3fb4e4eaf6c8adf0c591c70 …
