BREAKING: DC’s attorney general just issued subpoenas to the @NRA and its charitable foundation seeking financial documents. The NRA Foundation is chartered in the District and the NRA is registered as a nonprofit and does business there.
“The Office of the Attorney General for the District of Columbia has issued subpoenas to the National Rifle Association of America and the NRA Foundation as part of an investigation into whether these entities violated the District’s Nonprofit Act,” Racine said in a statement.
Racine’s office can bring nonprofit organizations to court to dissolve or place a nonprofit into receivership if it misuses funds or does not act in accord with its mission. The @NRA’s nonprofit status is also being investigated by the New York attorney general.
.@Everytown conducted a legal analysis of the @NRA’s shady insurance practices and shared it with law enforcement and regulators in New York and elsewhere. @MomsDemand volunteers then filed complaints against Carry Guard with regulators in multiple states. https://www.nbcnews.com/news/us-news/new-york-other-states-are-targeting-nra-s-bottom-line-n898981 …
