In this interview with @MayorOfLA, @DrLucyJones said she'd like to see two different earthquake early warning alerts on the city's app: 1) "be aware, weak shaking is coming" or 2) "drop, cover hold on"  https://www.facebook.com/MayorOfLA/videos/379150912582954/

"It was not a damaging earthquake here, but the reality was it was psychologically damaging," says @DrLucyJones of last week's quakes. They also happened after an exceptionally quiet period, seismically. LA had a damaging earthquake every year from 1983 to 1994 (!!!)

In a press conference, @MayorOfLA also confirms that over 700,000 people have downloaded the ShakeAlertLA app, and the app will be updated to include two types of alerts. Watch more here:  https://abc7.com/watch/23340/

The city is promoting its Ready Your LA Neighborhood (RYLAN) program that encourages Angelenos to make a disaster preparedness plan with your neighbors—not just a kit for your own family.  https://emergency.lacity.org/rylan/about

The community aspect is big part of the earthquake guide we put together at @CurbedLA and what @DrLucyJones often talks about—“a community whose people know and care about one another is the one that will pull through.”  https://la.curbed.com/2019/1/18/18150553/prepare-for-earthquake-california-los-angeles

I highly, highly recommend @DrLucyJones's book as a way to wrap your head around the types of disasters we face as a society. Earthquakes are not LA's greatest threat. Climate change will be worse.  https://la.curbed.com/2018/4/17/17244978/lucy-jones-book-earthquake-flood
