Former Pakistan cricket 🏏 captain turned Prime Minister Imran Khan is still the country’s biggest brand four decades in a row. Khan is in DC to meet with Trump who cut off most US military aid, worth $300 million, after accusing Pakistan of not doing enough to fight extremism.
2. US used Pakistan to funnel weapons to mujahideen fighters back when Carter and Reagan used likes of Osama bL to defeat the Soviets in Afghanistan. Haqqani, Hekmatyar, key allies of ObL, received CIA funding. Haqqani’s network played an important role in forming al Qaeda.
3. The Oxford-educated Imran Khan established himself as a global brand (not unlike Trump) in the 1980s, and served as Pakistan’s cricket captain, leading the country to a World Cup win in 1992. In 1996 he founded a centrist political party, PIK (Pakistan Movement for Justice).
4. Like Trump, Imran Khan is also tall (6’2”) and in the 1980s he was linked by the tabloids, press to multiple women, including Goldie Hawn, Kristiane Backer, Susannah Constantine, Sita White, Marie Helvin, Caroline Kellett, Hannah Mary Rothschild, Jerry Hall, and Lulu Blacker.
