If we keep building markets & algorithms that reward raw popularity & virality, over the long run, we're indirectly selecting for the traits that bring it about: outrageousness, addictiveness, appeal to the lowest common denominator.

What we choose to reward today shapes the world we'll inhabit tomorrow. We define the evolutionary pressure of the tech ecosystem.

And we're converging towards a world where every app is viral & hyperaddictive, where every piece of content is a cognitively-optimized fake shocker

We need calm, thoughtful technology. Technology we can use for our own fulfilment, not technology that uses us to spread itself
