Protected car lane during today’s @CicLAvia to help drivers access this Toyota dealership. #summerlanes

If you’re going to create special barrier-protected lanes to allow drivers at car-free events, you have to offer the same level of protection to non-drivers the rest of the time. Sorry, I don’t make the rules.

The saddest part of any LA open streets event is watching people leave the route and after a few blocks they end up walking their bikes onto the sidewalks because they’re too terrified to ride all the way home.

This was the 32nd CicLAvia event. That’s 32 Sundays that Angelenos from all over the city chose to spend their day getting around LA using their car-free mode of choice.

Clearly, hundreds of thousands of Angelenos enjoy getting around without cars. CicLAvia is the largest open-streets event in the U.S.! But tomorrow, most of these people will not get to work or school the same way they got around today. Their city will not let them.
