This is observably untrue. The electoral college focuses all attention to a handful of swing states. Abolishing it would make an LA vote exactly as valuable as an Idaho one—to name two places that currently get scant attention due to the EC.
The only thing he really wanted to say was the final sentence: “we don’t live in a democracy”
To defend the EC, you’d need to believe that, and believe that a democracy is a bad thing to live in.
The EC is an anti-democracy institution.
Count every vote, and let every vote count.
