NEW: Yelp is launching a big change today that it hopes will save its business. I tested it out:  https://onezero.medium.com/yelp-finally-gets-personal-with-a-much-needed-redesign-396a9a63242c

For years your Facebook and Instagram feeds, Pinterest feed, Google search results, and even Medium article recommendations have been personalized. But Yelp results have been the same for everyone. That changes today.  https://onezero.medium.com/yelp-finally-gets-personal-with-a-much-needed-redesign-396a9a63242c

It's a weird time in some ways for a Silicon Valley tech company to be asking people to help it profile them. Yelp says it won't share the data and isn't currently using it to target ads. But you have to think ad targeting is part of the long game.  https://onezero.medium.com/yelp-finally-gets-personal-with-a-much-needed-redesign-396a9a63242c

The good: Yelp stopped taunting me by recommending bars I don't have time to drink at, and instead suggested a badass-looking BBQ place in Wilmington I hadn't heard of before.

The bad: It featured a bunch of dog-friendly spots for me to take my pet. (My pet is a cat.)
