.@MomsDemand has worked successfully to get US companies to stop allowing open carry inside their stores for years. We made this ask of Walmart for years, including a recent #RollBackOpenCarry campaign by Arkansas volunteers. We’re grateful they’ve made this decision.
Open carry is allowed in 45 states. Given Walmart shooting tragedies - from John Crawford to the mass shooting El Paso, and threats by people open carry inside Walmart stores - we’re grateful Walmart, one of the largest companies in America, agrees open carry is dangerous.
Other companies should take note: No mom should have to wonder if the guy with a gun strapped to his back in the milk aisle is a threat to her children or just a gun extremist on a shopping trip.
When lawmakers don’t protect constituents, it’s up to companies to protect their customers. Women make 80 percent of the spending decisions for their families. Forcing companies to do the right thing is an important lever of power, and @MomsDemand volunteers will keep pulling it.
