"Clashes took place in the heart of Hong Kong Sunday as thousands of protesters marched on the U.S. consulate, calling for Washington’s help in their struggle for greater political freedom."  https://time.com/5671697/hong-kong-protests-us-consulate-human-rights-democracy-act/

The Hongkongers don't know 😭  https://www.theverge.com/2018/10/26/18029700/cesar-sayoc-democrat-bombs-trump-tank-meme-joke

Real vibes here

We've seen a lot of American flag waving, but this is the largest demonstration yet. Here's what they're seeking from Congress:

"The latest version has wide bipartisan support... Pelosi reiterated her support for the bill in a statement on Wednesday, saying that it would 'reaffirm the U.S. commitment to democracy, human rights & the rule of law in the face of Beijing’s crackdown.'"  https://www.nytimes.com/2019/09/08/world/asia/hong-kong-protesters-us-consulate.html

The HKHRDA bill mostly uses the International Emergency Economic Powers Act to sanction & blacklist HKers (including HK gov officials) deemed to not be preventing Chinese overreach (like disappearances) in HK. Some big implications for the public markets.  https://www.congress.gov/bill/116th-congress/house-bill/3289/text
