F16s and F35s of the U.S. Air Force dropped 36,000 kg of bombs on what @OIRSpox says is an Islamic State “infested island” in the Tigris (geolocation:  https://google.com/maps/place/35%C2%B040'24.4%22N+43%C2%B016'21.1%22E/@35.7000527,43.3306258,6040a,35y,240.86h,46.96t/data=!3m1!1e3!4m14!1m7!3m6!1s0x0:0x0!2zMzXCsDQwJzM5LjAiTiA0M8KwMTYnMTMuMCJF!3b1!8m2!3d35.6775!4d43.2702778!3m5!1s0x0:0x0!7e2!8m2!3d35.67343!4d43.2725347 ). This is part of Operation “Black Dust” with the Iraq's Counter-Terrorism Service and Nineveh Police.

Full video, incl. ground footage, below via @IraqiSpoxMOD. The airstrikes were destroying a “major transit hub for ISIS members moving from Syria and the Jazeera desert into the Mosul, Makhmour and the Kirkuk regions”, @OIRSpox said. (More v @chadgarland  https://www.stripes.com/news/middle-east/us-bombs-isis-island-in-iraq-s-tigris-river-1.598176 ).

Satellite imagery, courtesy of @planetlabs, shows that the island referred to as “Kanus Island“ (after the nearby village كنعوص), has been bombed before. Impact craters clearly visible.

This has been said dozens of times.. but so much for IS being “defeated”.

*correction: F-15s, not F-16s. Thx @JDoaim.
