I’m sure Chait would take great umbridge at the suggestion that “social traditionalist” is just a euphemism for “bigot,” but I also notice he’s careful not to write exactly what specifically an outreach to “social traditionalists” would look like.
There’s a long tradition of pacifism to be found with in this country.
Also of labor organizing.
Also of religious-based social justice.
Is this the “social tradition” Chait means?
He knows what he means. He just won’t say it.
