If guns can’t kill people, then guns can’t defend people.
If banning guns doesn’t stop criminals, then banning guns doesn’t stop people from defending themselves.
Exact same principle at work. Can’t have it both ways.
Either guns are objects whose value is in no way attributable to their capabilities and whose presence in the world is an utter neutral, or they are machines that are designed to kill people, whose presence in the world directly increases the possibility of killing.

If guns are value neutral for murder, then they are value-neutral for preventing murder.
Any argument that tries to argue for the one and against the other refutes itself.
