Anthony Kennedy should be remembered as a one of American democracy's great villains. Pivotal vote in Bush v. Gore, Citizens United, gutting the Voting Rights Act, refusing to do anything about gerrymandering, & then retiring to let Donald Trump replace him with Brett Kavanaugh
Anthony Kennedy being the deciding vote to strike down the heart of the Voting Rights Act led directly to Republicans being able to attack free & fair elections. His legacy of undermining democracy shifted the court to the right in ways that undermine his actual moderate rulings
"Proud @FedSoc member" in the bio. Please, as if Roe v. Wade won't get overturned outright or by 1,000 cuts thanks to Kennedy's efforts to gut free & fair elections & let Donald Trump pick his replacement 🙄
The right to vote is the right that protects all other civil rights in a democracy, something Martin Luther King Jr. passionately believed. Of course, it isn't like the Federalist Society cares about either of those things https://www.thenation.com/article/martin-luther-kings-call-to-give-us-the-ballot-is-as-relevant-today-as-it-was-in-1957/ …
