I have really come to loathe how "activist" is being used, often pejoratively, in this dogwhistle manner. It's suggesting of bias, of someone acting with vested interests.

"Activist" is suggesting of something vocational. It is so often used to delegitimize, to dismiss, or to hang doubt on the sincerity of a person's position.
It's a particularly worrying trend.
