Northern California was being battered Sunday morning with extreme Diablo winds.

The National Weather Service clocked a gust of 93 mph near Healdsburg, which is now threatened by the Kincade fire.  https://www.latimes.com/california/story/2019-10-27/winds-top-a-stunning-93-mph-in-kincade-fire-zone-causing-havoc-across-sonoma-county

Not only will winds be bad, but the air will be quite dry — relative humidity levels are forecast to fall between 15% and 30%; anything in the teens and 20s is really dry.  https://www.latimes.com/california/story/2019-10-27/winds-top-a-stunning-93-mph-in-kincade-fire-zone-causing-havoc-across-sonoma-county

California’s investor-owned utilities may be criticized for their efforts at wildfire prevention, but they’re also calling the shots.  https://www.latimes.com/california/story/2019-10-26/california-utilities-politicians-wildfire-power-outage-analysis

Those who survived the 2017 Santa Rosa fires felt they were reliving it again as the Kincade fire to the north prompt evacuations for a big swath of Santa Rosa as well as other Sonoma County cities.  https://www.latimes.com/california/story/2019-10-27/santa-rosa-again-forced-to-outrun-flames-it-feels-like-being-on-the-titanic-twice-one-resident-says

In Healdsburg's town square, red umbrellas in front of a cafe had toppled and the only vehicles on the road were neon green fire engines and police SUVs.  https://www.latimes.com/california/story/2019-10-27/kincade-fire-takes-aim-at-healdsburg

Here is the latest overview of the #KincadeFire impact zone. Firefighters were scrambling in the darkness early Sunday morning to quell multiple small blazes sparked by embers far from the fire’s main line in the foothills.

The #Kincadefire had Sonoma County wine country under seige Sunday, burning buildings in the famed Alexander Valley and destroying the Soda Rock winery.  https://www.latimes.com/california/story/2019-10-27/soda-rock-winery-destroyed-kincade-fire-wine-country

“We’ve seen the news. We are devastated,” Soda Rock posted on Facebook.  https://www.latimes.com/california/story/2019-10-27/soda-rock-winery-destroyed-kincade-fire-wine-country

Evacuating the frail and disabled during blackouts has become an issue since PG&E started the blackouts aimed at reducing wildfire risk.

Back in 2017, fires fueled by Diablo winds caused billions of dollars of damage.
Wind gusts recorded Sunday in the North Bay appear similar in magnitude.

The #KincadeFire in Northern California has so far:
• Burned 50,000 acres
• Forced evacuations of more than 180,000 people
• Destroyed 79 structures
• Led Gov. Newsom to declare a statewide emergency

Our updated PG&E power outage map shows where power shut-offs are still active or being considered.  https://www.latimes.com/projects/pge-wildfire-power-outages/

Firefighters’ biggest Sunday overnight concern is that the #KincadeFire will cross Highway 101.

Forecasters expect the #DiabloWinds to persist through Monday morning.
