Taft, a small oil town two hours northwest of Los Angeles, sits in Kern County, which, in 2016, went to Donald Trump in a big way. Taft sits atop one of the largest oil reserves in North America, a collection of underground petroleum lakes stretching for dozens of miles west of Bakersfield.
