Something I think folks miss about socialism in Latin America is the role anti-Blackness and anti-Indigenous systems have played in it. So much of what folks deride is actually White supremacy at play. This is why it matters when your faves don’t have a fluency on race.
This is why it works so much better in Scandinavia, the racial politics and lack of American intervention makes it more stable of a system.
Truthfully, I see both systems as insufficient. ::ducks::
But I think any inclination to Socialism will be ruined by American racial politics if not dealt with directly in the systems building.
Sometimes I feel like such an old lady - but you wanna know what else?!?! If you are even the slightest bit aware you can see it in everyone from Chavez to the Sandistas to literally ANY MEDIA in Latin America but you have to have some kind of lens to add it to your analysis.
