1) Bytedance (TikTok/Douyin, Toutiao) is 5xish larger than Google at the same age.
I believe Google was the fastest growing startup *ever* pre Bytedance.
Really impressive innovation from so many Chinese internet co’s around business models, payments, O2O, super apps.
2) Would be interesting to normalize from first year of monetization vs. year founded as Google wasn’t immediately focused on monetization. And once focused, had to unknowingly reinvent the Vickery auction and then evangelize AdWords.

3) Critical to visit China regularly as a Western internet/tech investor - it’s the easiest way to see the future, or perhaps more accurately, a future.
4) And yes, way more people are online now than in Google’s early days, online economy much more developed and Bytedance is paying large $ to acquire customers.
Still super impressive.
