Every time Mayor Pete claims outsider status because he’s not a millionaire I have a huge exasperated sigh at the social capital/insider status you get at Harvard, McKinsey, and Rhodes Scholarship. How do we think he had connections to all those billionaires in the first place?
You cannot get the shot he’s got right now in the absence of the pedigree and connections he has. It’s irresponsible for him to act like he’s an upstart from out of nowhere without the bevy of choices he had to go get power where he CHOSE.
Fact of the matter is if Pete’s priority was to go be a millionaire, he could absolutely go do that. Any number of circles would invite him in. He just made this choice. But power and money are fairly interchangeable in the long run. He’s 38. That’s why he’s not a millionaire yet
Let’s not act like he’s gonna be counting his 401k pennies to see if he CAN retire by the time he’s the age of most of the candidates that stage. His pedigree guarantees that.
