Today @MayorOfLA announced a new executive order to speed the implementation of the Green New Deal plan to reduce emissions introduced almost a year ago.

Here's one major highlight—city-mandated monthly, then weekly @CicLAvia events!

Also included is slightly vague but overall promising language around building out the city's bike network. The projects will be prioritized at least partially based on the number of injuries and fatalities on certain streets.

In the transit section: Bus-only lanes and other infrastructure to prioritize bus and rail, with a deadline to start implementation by October 2020. Shout out to #BetterBusesforLA for all your hard work on this issue.

I really like this part but it's the least specific when it comes to implementation—basically making sure that any changes to the right of way are made in a way that reduces VMT. This could be really big if the on-the-ground policies actually support it.

Some good stuff, but it will require ongoing leadership to make sure it's implemented effectively. Here's the entire executive order:  https://www.lamayor.org/sites/g/files/wph446/f/article/files/ED25.pdf

And here's the ever-brilliant @CarterRubin breaking down the plan from @NRDC's perspective:  https://www.nrdc.org/experts/carter-rubin/mayor-garcettis-directive-propels-transportation-efforts
