Hi y’all, I wrote about why so many commercial parkas aren’t very warm — and how you can find a good one. Plus some recs! I’m particularly excited about High’s Adventure Gear (made by mushers!) because each of their parkas can be custom made if you’re a hard-to-find size.

So many people don’t enjoy winter because they’re COLD. But you don’t have to be! Plus outdoor gear and winterwear comes in a limited range of sizes, but it can be vital to feeling comfortable in the outdoors—and feeling like you belong there. Which you do.

You never NEED to buy anything, or own particular products, to spend time outdoors. Outdoor culture can be as capitalist as the rest of American culture and it’s important to acknowledge the issues there (there are a lot). And parkas are expensive. A good one is often over $300.
