Instead of talking about how activations will incorporate branded hand-sanitizing stations, SXSW should be building the ultimate virtual conference experience—a model that proves we don't have to be in the same place to share ideas or make connections. 

Nowhere in the latest messaging to speakers and attendees does SXSW say, hey, if you can't come, we'll support you by setting up a Skype video for you so you can still be a part of your panel.

That's not a true preparedness plan. 

Who will build SXSW's game-changing virtual conference platform? All the tech industry folks who were going to attend but now have been ordered to work from home. They can build this during the 2-3 hours per day they no longer need to commute to work. 

I'm really excited to go to SXSW. I have a panel that I've worked very hard on for the last six months. But does it make sense for all four of us to be traveling to Austin to talk about another national public health epidemic?
