Arianespace CEO Stéphane Israël sits down with the Post’s Chris Davenport at a #SATShow @WSBRoundtable luncheon

Israël: Launch costs have clearly evolved but they’ve gone down, rather than up.

#SATShow

Israël: There has historically been just 2 or 3 medium-to-heavy rockets on the market and “I don’t think this will change.”

The potential game changer is satellite constellations, as this is the year of the constellation with Starlink and OneWeb launching already.
#SATShow

Israël: Space, and especially low orbit, needs to be prioritized for those on Earth. We need more regulation in LEO to make sure companies clean up after themselves.
#SATShow

Israël: The UN should regulate space, it shouldn’t be up to national agencies.

#SATShow

Israël: The next OneWeb launch will be March 21

#SATShow

Israël: I hope we are not far from bottom with how launch prices have declined. Constellations should help decrease Ariane 6 costs (15-20 per year).

Ariane 6 is a 40% decrease in cost per rocket compared to Ariane 5, primarily because we will be making more each year.
#SATShow

Israël: Rocket “reusability is for sure an important question” and the first factor in decreasing the cost of a rocket is designing a rocket. Reusability requires a high launch cadence and I think its business case is yet to be confirmed.

#SATShow

Israël: If the economics of reusability are confirmed, we want to be ready to move forward with it, but it’s not the first factor Arianespace considers when designing its rockets.

#SATShow

Israël: I admire the United States because of its leadership in space and I’m proud Arianespace has launched so many US spacecraft.

“Clearly the United States is part of the DNA of Ariane”
#SATShow

Israël: Europe needs a level playing field and that will come with more investment in space, which is a way we can learn from the U.S.
