Criminal prosecution and civil litigation in U.S. courts for promoting and selling industrial bleach to cure or treat disease.

A thread. (Really.)

These cases tend to fall under the rubric of "Miracle" Mineral Solution (MMS) products.

The FDA says it first started warning about MMS in 2010.

In 2013, federal prosecutors indicted four people for misbranded drugs in connection with MMS.

Louis Daniel Smith, the operator of the business Project Greenlife, received a 51-month prison sentence after being convicted by a jury.  https://www.justice.gov/opa/pr/seller-miracle-mineral-solution-sentenced-prison-marketing-toxic-chemical-miracle-cure

Smith recently tried to vacate the judgment, an effort rejected by a federal judge this month, in part by defending MMS.

"Each of the characterizations Mr. Smith refers to comes straight from the labeling of MMS or Sodium Chlorite," the judge noted on April 3, closing the case.

In 2016, Texas prosecutors brought a civil case against Genesis II Church of Health and Healing, which claimed the bleach (MMS) was a sacrament.

Prosecutors won an injunction.

In the past, Genesis touted MMS as a treatment for Alzheimer’s, autism, brain cancer, HIV/AIDS, and multiple sclerosis.

Now, Genesis is pitching it for Covid-19, leading the DOJ to seek an injunction on April 17.  https://www.justice.gov/opa/pr/justice-department-seeks-end-illegal-online-sale-industrial-bleach-marketed-miracle-treatment
