During the COVID-19 pandemic, the increase in gender based violence especially IPV has increased.
YWCAs across Canada are providing essential services to women and non-binary people during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Kindly support @YWCA_Canada emergency Fund

The demand to support survivors of gender-based violence at YWCAs has jumped by 20%. Community needs have increased significantly in the past few weeks. YWCAs are raising money for an emergency fund to deal with the impacts of COVID-19 on our communities.

Your support will help us at @YWCA_Canada provide meals, mental health support, shelter, PPE and other essential services to women and non-binary people that we care for across Canada during the COVID-19 pandemic.

YWCAs across Canada are currently doing the following:

‚ÄĘOperating shelters for families fleeing violence and over 2,000 units of affordable housing

‚ÄĘTurning their community spaces into emergency shelters

‚ÄĘRunning child care for essential workers

‚ÄĘProviding counselling services and safety planning remotely

‚ÄĘRenting hotel spaces to provide shelter and maintain physical distancing

‚ÄĘProviding food and essential supplies to seniors and other vulnerable communities

As a @YWCA_Canada Ambassador, I had the opportunity of joining other members on our advocacy day on the hill in 2018 and that same day we got $1.25 million to support our employment and training programs. ‚Ķ

As part of the LSAT, I participated in outreach with a focus on young women from equity-seeking groups including racialized, Indigenous, LGBTQ+ folks, women with disabilities, and those from Northern & rural communities across Canada.

I was also a Member of the Leadership Summit Animation Team (LSAT) of YWCA Canada’s Think Big! Lead Now! Young Women’s National Leadership Program. I worked with other team members to plan the YWLP summit and I also facilitated the Leadership Workshop. ‚Ķ

My journey with @YWCA_Canada has been a remarkable one. From participating in the 2018 YWLP to helping them raise funds, plan the 2020 summit and also teach grant writing, share scholarships and job opportunities with young women and other gender diverse people.

has been at the forefront of a movement: to fight gender-based violence, build affordable housing and advocate for workplace equity.
