NEW: 45 ventilators delivered "from Russia, with love," to New York and New Jersey are being returned to FEMA, state and US officials tell me. And the US may have caught a break: the same ventilators caught fire, killing 6 people in Russia in the past week

New York State Department of Health told me: "New York State received 30 ventilators from Russia, but thanks to the success of our efforts to contain the COVID-19 pandemic, they were not needed. They will be returned to FEMA soon."

"15 [Russian] ventilators were received. They have not been used to date, mainly for electrical compatibility issues," the New Jersey State Department of Health said.

FEMA told me they are aware of the deadly ventilator fires in Russia and said that New York and New Jersey are returning their Russian ventilators to it “out of an abundance of caution.” They won't redistribute them until a Russian probe is completed.
