Norway used to be a top market for Tesla, but Norwegians apparently rejecting Elon Musk’s recent loutish tantrums over coronavirus shutdowns. Meanwhile, Volkswagen’s electric cars have gained 6X as many registrations as Tesla, which had a decade plus headstart over VW in EVs.

Grim chart for Tesla in Norway even before May’s disastrous numbers are factored in. Audi (a Volkswagen subsidiary) is the king of the electric vehicle hill in Norway for 2020 so far. Volkswagen Group’s EVs (Audi, Skoda, VW) outsold Tesla 6:1 in Norway in 2020.

Netherlands used to be a hot market for Tesla. But in April 2020, Tesla had just 15% EV market share (like in Norway, perhaps the Dutch are turned off by Elon Musk’s tantrums over coronavirus?)—Latecomers to the electric vehicle game, such as Korean EVs, outsold Tesla 3:1.

Still not too late for Elon Musk to apologize for his boorish behavior—if he doesn’t could face a rebellion from Tesla employees or a talent flight to other EV automakers (or both). This is how Apple lost global smartphone market share to Korean and Chinese makers.

More proof that Elon Musk’s mouth may have cost him customers in Sweden? Electric vehicles from Volkswagen Group (which owns Audi) outsold Tesla 3:1 in May 2020 in Sweden. Korean EVs outsold Tesla 2:1.

Overall Tesla was outsold ~8:1 by its EV competition.
