COVID Update Thread June 5: Follow @drmedows & let’s follow her advice. If we’re serious about ending racism, let’s do more than talk. Let’s begin with COVID. 1/

1) Provide COVID prevention outreach before a second wave.
African Americans are disproportionately essential workers.
-N-95 masks available
-Re-engineered workplaces
-Hand sanitizer
-Heart health
-Blood pressure checks
-Public health reviews of neighborhoods 2/

2) More COVID tests
-It is now required that all tests have race & ethnicity data. Information must be made public that ensure distribution
-Testing sites should be mapped to convenient locations
-Mayors & governors must commit to over-testing communities w disproprtiomate need3/

3) Ensure continuity of care
-Medicarion: blood pressure, insulin medication delivery
-Non-COVID access to care
-Broadband & telehealth
-Home based care

4) Distribute vaccinations disproportionately to black communities, where there are the highest mortality rates & the lowest access to care. Governors and mayors should pledge this.

We cannot end the impact of racism without changing how we do things. It is time to change.
