We're all hoping for a safe, effective vaccine. But when will we get one?
Trials moving quickly, but there is a real risk that we'll struggle to to produce enough doses quickly
We'll have supply chain issues, distribution challenges, etc
Operation Warp Speed meant to address this. Has focused on a small number of vaccines.
But its efforts, while good, may not be enough.
Good @DavidBKendall and Kaitlin Hunter piece in @thehill about what we really need to do
What are their arguments in a nut shell?
1. Make more bets -- bet on 10 vaccines
2. Pre-purchase a year's worth now, get production going.
3. Focus on supply chains before they will get bungled (see testing fiasco).
Cost of all of this? About $26B. Trivial amount in the context of the pandemic.
If we are broader, more aggressive, higher likelihood we can bring this pandemic to a close faster.
