I do want to say one other thing about this. I do believe that in order to progress in a company and to have power as a manager, you HAVE to go through this kind of competency building. But anyone looking to directly ignore a company priority is not just an asshole.
They are delinquent in learning about an organization pritority. They are at best abusive to a trainer you’ve hired and at worst racist and abusive to people you’ve hired.
Refusing building competency of these skills should be treated like someone refusing to have good project management or lateral communication or change management skills, which btw, usually these guys are piss poor at because those require some emotional intelligence.
They cannot be all company, but they should be the way you spot who gets to be in leadership.
