🤦🏻‍♂️ The Orange County Board of Education has voted 4-1 to reopen schools next month with in-person instruction. Students and teachers can choose to attend classes without masks and no social distancing is required, which violates the CDC’s guidance to avoid the Three Cs…

The ancestor of this coronavirus, 2003 SARS, killed <1,000. This one has killed 600,000 so far. It’s “children” could kill millions by the time a vaccine is developed (there is still no vaccine for HIV or MERS). Let’s use this time to redesign society to be better prepared.

Social distancing, masks and working from home could become the new norm and limit spread of deadly viruses and diseases. But we need to do more — dramatically bring down obesity in US, which means shutting down fast food and dine-in restaurants or alter them fundamentally.

Buses, trains and planes would need to limit how many people can be onboard at any time. Personal space can take on a whole new meaning — no more “mingling” like before. Zoonotic viruses jump from animals to humans — global meat consumption may have to be significantly reduced.

This could be a “net benefit” for humans and the planet — as we become more focused on improving our health and reducing consumption (of junk meet/sugars/foods etc), which will improve the environment, which in turn could improve our health/ability to fight off such viruses.
