Test drove a Tesla Model Y today. Superb performance, appalling build quality. Just look at those gaps and panel welds (a 25 year old Lexus or Toyota has better build quality).

These Tesla Model Y welds and panel gaps are embarassing for a vehicle that can cost $70,000+ ($1000/month payment).

Thankfully, the interior of the Tesla Model Y doesn’t have too many switches and parts, otherwise those too would likely have been ill-fitting. But what little there is, feels incongruous — for example, this speaker/pillar/dash flow. Look at the edges on that speaker molding 😬

Overall, Model Y feels more like a prototype than a finished product, but for its target audience, this might be good enough to plonk down $$$. Will Tesla smooth out the rough edges (the turn signal stalk on my model had knife 🔪 sharp plastic — molding defect) in a few months?

From misaligned panels and lights to paint overruns to incorrectly glued or scratched parts, Tesla quality problems are so common that there are now “quality checklists” created by consumers to help other consumers before they take delivery of a Tesla.
