1/ If society values CHARACTER, should it strive for “one character”, one you?
Ought we have ONE self, not a “work self” a “private self”?
People feared employers rejecting them b/c of Facebook photos partying—-being human.
Like ‘casual Fridays’ shouldnt those employers adapt?
2/ People contain multitudes. Is their virtue in not pretending to ignore but encouraging/celenbrating reality/truth that people can be effective at their work + ALSO have different personal values + preferences? The “rights” and “acceptance” movements have moved us this way
3/ Yet almost every public SCANDAL (politics, companies, sports, religions) is the revelation of a hypocrisy or a mismatch between a fake “portrayed” persona + a hidden but true one:
4/ Easily dismissed: “naive” “idealistic” “wrong headed” “easily said” “denies reality” + much more—but tech has influenced social phenomena unpredictably in the past
Might the last ~10yr experiment w/Facebook + Twitter that led to social change, lead to a 1 CHARACTER movement?
